05-14-12 Ei White Oak Pastures Farm Tour

Ei takes its first steps into the world of Product Stewardship with two South Georgia farm tours. Long-term Ei Friend and ZWZ Participant White Oak Pastures hosted the first of the two-day, two-farm tour filled with education and awe. 05-08-12 Transport Pkging Session @ NRA Show

Ei Chair Scott Seydel orchestrated and Lily Kelly of Global Green's CoRR moderated an excellent educational session on transport packaging at the 2012 NRA Show. The main focus was on waxed cardboard, which is a contaminant in recycling or composting systems. Read more. Click here.

2012 NRA Show in Chicago

Elemental Impact Partners made a strong presence at the 2012 National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago. Whether educating show attendees about their products and services at booths or walking the show floor, Ei Partners were an active force at the well-attended show. 04-17-12 Heritage Interactive Visits ATL

It was a full-throttle welcome to new Ei Partner Heritage Interactive Services on their first Atlanta visit. Along with getting acquainted with the Ei staff and local partners, HIS meetings set the stage for monumental Atlanta projects. The two-day visit was filled with back-to-back meetings intertwined with enjoying Atlanta's excellent dining scene.

04-17-12 Greenprint Midtown Vision Event

The Midtown Alliance, in partnership with Sustainable Atlanta and Southface, hosted the Greenprint Midtown Interactive Visioning Session at the AT&t Conference Center. The well attended event was an opportunity for Midtown residents, corporate and personal, to share their voice on potential programs to enhance Midtown's vibrancy and reduce environmental impact. 04-16-12 Spelman College recycling tour

Ei is in the infancy stage of working with the Atlanta University Center on a collaborative recycling program. Ei Partner Heritage Interactive Services took a major first action step with an introductory meeting to understand the campus facts and metrics baseline. Click Here.

What a important treat! The Sustainable Food Court Initiative Atlanta Airport ACTION Team toured the under-construction Concourse F, International Concourse, with Kyle Mastin, Airport Concessions GM, and Tim Slaney, HMSHost Atlanta GM. HMSHost is the contracted foodservice operator for the International Concourse, the first concourse with restaurants under the new airport concessions contracts. read more, Click Here.

Leading Atlanta non-profits, BOMA, Green Chamber of the South, Southeast Green and Sustainable Atlanta, teamed together to host a sold-out luncheon honoring Denise Quarles, City of Atlanta director of sustainability. The amazing turnout during spring break week right before Easter| Passover weekend signifies the depth of commitment with the City's government, non-profit and corporate communities to creating a sustainable future for the City. 03-02-12 NOLA Resource Recovery Conference

Global Green's New York City and New Orleans' offices worked in tandem to create a vibrant one-day conference, NOLA Resource Recovery Conference, held at the BioInnovation Center on Canal Street. Annie White and her NYC team engaged their national network of industry experts for a phenomenal program intended to educate NOLA city and area officials on the support available for a City ready to embrace resource recovery. With the NOLA offices' local connections, Beth Galante provided the imperative local participation. On March 01, 2012 the New Orleans Global Green office hosted an amazing tour of the Rebuilding of NOLA subsequent to the devastation brought in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. Beginning at their Green Building Resource Center, tour leader Linda Morgano gave an excellent recap of the hurricane-related flooding, including why some areas experienced more tragedy than others. The overview included rebuilding efforts in place by Global Green and other partner organizations along with government agencies.Read more, click Here.

02-21-12 Charlotte Visit

Efficient and Effective was the theme for the February, 2012 Charlotte excursion. Lorraine White owner of M-Pass, an Ei Partner, joined Holly Elmore for the whirlwind visit. In less than 24 hours ( 23 3/4 hours to be exact), the dynamic duo had a excellent presentation meeting with Wastequip, an Ei Supporter, on their new aerated organics collection bin followed by a lovely dinner. The U.S. Composting Council celebrated their 20th anniversary with a stellar conference in Austin, TX. With a change in command last fall, the conference was an excellent opportunity for the USCC to embark on a new era. 01-18-12 For the second consecutive year, a POWER - Perishable Organics Waste to Energy Recycling - session was included in the U.S. Composting Council conference program. In 2011 the POWER meeting was part of the pre-conference activities and in 2012 was a formal conference program session.Read more.Click Here.

01-11-12 Concord Mills - Great Food Prep

When Ei first started down the Sustainable Food Court Initiative path, one of the first eye openers was the lack of prep food scraps generated. Most of the QSR (quick service restaurants) purchased prepared foods, many to their company spec, and did mostly reheating prior to service. Read more.Click Here.

Scott DeFife, National Restaurant Association Sr EVP Govt Affairs, joined Scott Seydel, Ei Chair, and Holly Elmore, Ei Founder, for a filming session at the Atlanta Airport Sustainable Food Court Initiative Pilot.

Tim Slaney, HMSHost ATL GM, came to the beginning of the shoot to give an overview of the pilot logistics. Scott has the interview on film and a link will be added once the video is posted.

12-05-11 SFCI ATL Airport Milk Jug Recycling

Indicative of their sustainability commitment, HMSHost created a recycling program for the spent milk jugs generated at the Airport Starbuck's locations. The average 2,600 milk jugs used per week are aggregated to one location where an Orwak compactor|baler resides. By selling the compacted, baled milk jugs along with the plastic syrup bottles, to a local MRF (materials recovery facility), revenue offsets the program cost. Read more. Click Here.

The Ei Annual Sponsor & Advisory Council was an excellent opportunity for sponsor and AC members to get updated and understand the magnitude of Ei's initiatives. It was a powerful, well attended meeting and a great opportunity for those on the many conference calls to convene in person. 11-13- 11 - 2011 GRACE Awards

The GRACE Awards hit their stride with their fifth annual event held at the Loews Atlanta Hotel, a ZWZ- Midtown Participant. It was refreshing to witness the care taken to
ensure the event enveloped "green" in subtle and obvious practices. From the obvious, the centerpieces were 100% compostable (mostly reusable) to the subtle, printing and use of decor light. Kudos to Kelly Hornbuckle who orchestrated all five fantastic GRACE event - she nailed it 5 for 5! Click Here.

The SC Hospitality Association is serious about bringing Zero Waste Zones to their state, starting with the City of Columbia. On the first tour SCHA learned from the ATL ZWZ Participants that source-separating food scraps is easy. The second tour focus was on the logistics, permits and challenges associated with collection|transport and composting operations.

10-06-11 Hilex Poly Environmental Summit

On October 06 Hilex Poly, the world's largest plastic bag manufacturer, hosted an Environmental Summit for their key customers. Phil Rozenski, Hilex Director of Marketing & Sustainability, prepared an excellent program at the well-attended summit. Topics ranged from sustainability foundations to the specifics of plastic recycling.

09-21-11 FPI Mtg in Denver, CO

The Foodservice Packaging Institute dedicated an entire afternoon session to sustainability at their semi-annual meeting held at the historic Brown Palace in Denver, CO. With a strong line-up of speakers, the audience was enthusiastic and lively during the Q&A capping off the session. The day ended with a fantastic reception and dinner where everyone had a grand time. Click Here.

09-13-11 Green is Good for Business Conference - Columbia, SC

ZWZ Director Holly Elmore traveled to Columbia, SC the week of September 12 to speak at the Annual SC Green is Good for Business presented in partnership by the City of Columbia and the SC Dept of Health & Environmental Control. The conference exemplifies Columbia's commitment to move to the green side of business. 06-15-11 HAVI visits ATL re: explore organics collection

During their June, 2011 ATL visit, Jim Hansen, HAVI Global Director of Sustainability, and Jessica Farrar, Project Manager, took the inaugural steps in organics collection/composting education. The first stop was Ecco where Steve Simon, ZWZ Champion & Fifth Group Restaurants Partner, showed Jim & Jessica how organics collection works at a full-service restaurant. At Greenco Environmental, a composting facility south of ATL, owner Tim Lesko explained the composting process from organics delivery to sale of the end product. 02-23-11 ZWZ Two-Yr Press Conference

Wow - how amazing to realize the amazing accomplishments over the past two yeasr by witnessing the accolades from Laura Turner Seydel, ZWZ Chair, George McKerrow, a foundation to ZWZ success, Scott DeFife, who announced the NRA collaboration with Ei|ZWZ, and Randall Essick, who announced Waste Management's organics commitment in the metro Atlanta market.
